Search giant Google is overhauling the login page of its free email service Gmail to conform to its "design improvement" of its products.

A preview of the new Gmail login page as of Saturday night shows the links to creating a new account above the boxes for the username and password.

The Gmail logo with a stylized "M" resembling an envelope, which users had been familiar with since 2004, has been replaced with a plain-text "Gmail."

Instead of the message "Sign in with your Google Account," the right side of the page now has the message "Sign in," beside a Google logo.

Links to "Send feedback" and the old sign-in page can be found at the bottom of the new login page.

But Google did not immediately say when the new login page will permanently replace the present one.

The upcoming Gmail overhaul is the latest in a series of "design improvements" by Google.

Last June, digital creative director Chris Wiggins said Google was working on a project to bring a "new and improved" Google experience.

The new Google homepage, which was overhauled as well, now a smaller logo and links moved to the top and bottom edges of the browser for a cleaner look.

"The way people use and experience the web is evolving, and our goal is to give you a more seamless and consistent online experience—one that works no matter which Google product you’re using or what device you’re using it on. The new Google experience that we’ve begun working toward is founded on three key design principles: focus, elasticity and effortlessness," Wiggins said in an earlier blog post.
