MANILA, Philippines--Cable television provider SkyCable Corp., which is part of the Lopez conglomerate, seeks broader audience as it rolls out a subscription plan worth as low as P280 per month for the lower-income segment of the market.
“We’re trying to make cable more affordable now to C market. At only P280 (per month), we hope that will entice a significant segment of the market which is not receiving cable TV,” said Eugenio Lopez III, chair of SkyCable parent company ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp.
In a briefing at the sidelines of ABS-CBN’s annual stockholders meeting Thursday, Lopez said that as SkyCable had pretty much penetrated the AB market, the next thrust was to tap a bigger market segment.
The regular SkyCable monthly package for high end-subscribers starts at P700 to as high as P6,000 depending on the array of channels, resolution and speed. SkyCable accounts for about half of the about 1 million cable TV subscribers in the country, said SkyCable managing director Carlo Katigbak.
Katigbak said the low-end cable package was launched only a few weeks ago and the results had been “encouraging.”
The P280 monthly package includes 30 channels but subscribers have the option to buy additional channels.
“You can customize the package and no longer pay for the channels you don’t watch,” Katigbak said.
