Yesterday, I received my statement from my Citibank-Shell card.

Nakita ko, naka register doon ang P3000 annual fee.   So, I immediately called their hotline, 02-995-9999, to have  it waived.

The first bank officer I talked is not willing to give in to my request, after a few questions here and there about the annual fee.  He cited that since Citi-Shell is a co-branded, that's why they CAN'T have my annual fee waived.   So I pulled the last card out, and tell him to cancel my card.  He did not sound surprised.  Apparently, a lot of credit card users are using this threat already.  Hehehe   nono

But I planned this a bit better, and ahead of time.  Three months before, I concentrated my usage on my Citibank - groceries, restaurants, and all possible expenses.

So, I asked him again, to check on my last 3 month's billing.  This time, he relented, and passed me to another officer.  This time, the conversation went smoother.  She, the new officer, asked me to enrol a utility in their card, and viola, my annual will be waived.

All's well that ends well.

Ano po yung utility na pina-enroll sa inyo sir Ping? Is it online statements? How much naman po yung average spending nyo for the last 3 months before your card's anniversary, if you don't mind sharing?

Actually, any utility bill daw, pero I enrolled my PLDT.  Sa amount naman, medyo relative kasi, pero I think more or less pag mga 75k-100k, it is more than enough for them to not let you go as customer that easily.

I also got my annual fee waived for 2 years for my RCBC Bankard just this Tuesday.

Here's what I did...
Tumawag ako nung July 14 and outright told the customer service agent to cancel my subscription to their card because I don't want to wait for my next bill only to see the 1,500 pesos annual fee.
Nonchalantly, the agent proposed that he will waive my annual fee only if I give him names of my 2 relatives that can be supplemental card holders. He also advised me that I can cancel their subscription after one month if they are not really interested to use their cards. So I gave him 2 fictional names as my cousins.
Before the end of the discussion with the agent, I got his full name and referrence numbers for my request.
Sana magtuloy-tuloy na talaga ito.  Smiley
