Pope, Hillary Clinton wishing for Cory Aquino's recovery

Former President Corazon Aquino has received a big boost in her fight against colon cancer from no less than US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Pope Benedict XVI.

US Ambassador Kristie Kenney said she delivered Clinton's personal letter to Mrs. Aquino's family Thursday, and later attended a healing Mass for the 76-year-old democracy icon.
In Vatican City, the Pope expressed his "spiritual closeness" to Mrs. Aquino after learning of her health from Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, according to an article posted on the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Web site.

“The Holy Father has asked that you be informed that he is remembering you in his prayers," the article quoted Papal nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams as saying to Mrs. Aquino.

Former Philippine Ambassador to the Vatican Henrietta de Villa said the Pope is being “continuously updated" on Mrs. Aquino’s condition.

De Villa personally delivered the letter to Mrs. Aquino Wednesday at the Makati Medical Center, where the former leader has been confined since June 25.
